The Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (link: http://www.sicsa.ac.uk) is a collaboration of leading Scottish Universities whose aim is to work together to consolidate and extend Scotland’s position as an international research leader in computer science and informatics. As part of this, the Scottish Graduate Academy in Informatics and Computer Science offers up to 20 international prize studentships per year to outstanding candidates who wish to study for a PhD in Scotland.

We are interested in exploring how the arts matter internationally, taking up central questions of translation as it is understood in the AHRC’s future research theme Translating Cultures: not merely translation from one language to another, but translation as cultural exchange, in the form of translation from one media or discipline to another, or between theory and practice. This is to focus on the political dimension of translation in the present, a time in which translation has a key role to play in matters of war and peace.

Long-term antiretroviral therapy of HIV / AIDS: comparative studies in low-income and high-income countries

An opening for a PhD student in biostatistics / epidemiology is available from 1st February 2010 in the research group on HIV/AIDS/Tb. The is collaborating closely with HIV treatment sites in Southern Africa and other research groups in Cape Town, Bristol and London. The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) employs over 100 staff and provides undergraduate and post-graduate education and carries out research in a range of disciplines relevant to Public Health. ISPM offers a lively, interdisciplinary environment with excellent computing and library facilities. The position will be within the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and is financed by a scholarship from the Swiss School of Public Health SSPH+ which assures an excellent training programme. The student will be supervised by Prof. Matthias Egger and Dr. Olivia Keiser.

Scholarship Description Australian Postgraduate Award Industry PhD Scholarships
Two Australian Postgraduate Industry Awards (APAIs), each worth $26,669 per annum (tax free) for three-years, are available for postgraduate research towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Successful applicants will conduct research to contribute to infrastructure development for integration of renewable and distributed power generation into electricity grid systems. One APAI will conduct research on power quality aspects related to the integration of renewable and distributed power generation, and the other will carry out research on network control and protection issues associated with the integration of renewable and distributed energy resources. Candidates with undergraduate honours (Class I or II(1)) or Masters degrees by research in electrical engineering with power engineering major are invited to apply.
