PhD Position in Medical Robotics-The Institute for Robotics and Cognitive Systems (www.rob.uni-luebeck.de) at the University of Luebeck has 1 open PhD position in the area of medical robotics, in particular in needle steering and high-resolution image guidance for soft tissue navigation.

The position will be part of the PhD program at the Graduate School for Computing in Medicine and Life Sciences (www.gradschool.uni-luebeck.de). The PhD position is funded for 3 years with a scholarship of 1250 EUR per month, with possible increase.

The focus of the PhD Studentship Risk-based Design in Water Engineering will be to develop a methodology to identify, select and quantify sources of uncertainty in model-based design of wastewater treatment
plants. The methodology should allow predicting the probability of meeting effluent
standards and be applied to critically review the often excessive safety margins in
current design practice. It will be developed and tested on full-scale treatment
plants in North America and Europe.

PhD Studentship Biomedical Imaging 2010
Imaging of awake animals

The objective of this 4-year BBSRC Industrial CASE funded project is to establish a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) protocol to image awake animals without tight restraint. The project will attract an annual tax-free stipend (minimum of £16, 090) as well as providing full coverage of tuition fees and associated project costs. Due to commence October 2010, the project is open to UK/EU* nationals only due to the nature of the funding.
